Our curriculum is designed to enable students to acquire and to develop a wide range of transferrable skills through learning experiences that build their self-awareness, self-esteem and self-confidence.
With the breadth of the National Curriculum as our foundation, the organisation of our curriculum serves to ensure that all students have improved outcomes and gain knowledge, skills and understanding required to be successful upon leaving school.

Our curriculum is coherently planned from Years 7 to 11 in each subject through Curriculum and Assessment Maps with units sequenced logically across the years of study. Please click here for further information on individual subject areas.
At TJA, we keep a traditional focus on the CORE subjects, English, Maths, and Science and teaching is deeply personalised and able to flex in order to meet students’ greatest needs.
All students in KS3 follow the National Curriculum subjects as set out in our Curriculum and Assessment Maps with the aim of providing a deep, literacy rich and nurturing climate for learning. Alongside the core subjects, students study Creative Media, PE, Drama, RSHE, ICT, History, Geography and French or Spanish.
At Key Stage 4, we ensure breadth and balance is maintained by continuing to follow the National curriculum subjects. The majority of students study the EBacc curriculum with compulsory subjects of Mathematics, English and Science. Alongside this, students select three options of their choice, which includes GCSE and NCFE options:
- GCSE Physical Education, GCSE Biology, GCSE Statistics, GCSE Citizenship, GCSE History, GSCE Business and GCSE Spanish.
- NCFE Health and Social Care, NCFE Graphic Design and NCFE Health and Fitness
TJA also offer the opportunity to take a GCSE in a Home Language, which provides students with an additional qualification to enhance their skillset further.
Beyond the formal curriculum we also provide many opportunities that extend beyond the classroom which enrich the school experience and broaden students’ horizons. These activities not only develop students’ interests in the outside world, but also enhance self-confidence and personal skills.
Students are encouraged to attend the ‘Beyond the Classroom’ out-of-hours Programme and attend our Breakfast Club as part of Tutor Time. Students are also actively encouraged to participate in Student Voice and join our Ambassador Programme.
Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Development (SMSC) and British Values are promoted across every aspect of school life and are crucial aspects of curriculum provision.
