Meet the Maths team at TJA:

Mr W James

Mr M Thomas

Mr L Grant---HOD/Ass. Head Teacher

Our Aims and achievements are to:

  • Ensure students are exposed to mathematical concepts through interactive teaching.
  • Help students cultivate and maintain a positive attitude for mathematics and relate such to real life experiences.
  • Prepare students to at least achieve a Grade 4 in the New GCSE mathematics 9-1 exam at the end of year 11

At year 7-8 the syllabus is designed from the New GCSE 9-1 Curriculum. Students are taught concepts and skills in Numbers, Algebra, Shapes and Statistics. This syllabus is design for the Respite group who normally transition back to their Home School. We prepared them so they are not left behind in Mathematics upon reintegration at their Home School.

The syllabus for year 9-1 is divided into four main categories namely: Numbers, Algebra, Shapes and Statistics. This syllabus covers all the skills that students need to prepare for their final GCSE maths exam in year 11.

We follow the GCSE Edexcel syllabus in preparing Year 11 students for their final Mathematics exam. Students receive a grade 9-1 with one being the highest grade. For their final exam they do three papers each 1 1/2 hour long. Students are entered for the higher paper or the foundation paper.
