BTEC Firsts Children’s Play, Learning and Development


BTEC Firsts Children’s Play, Learning and Development inspire and enthuse learners to consider a career in early years, or related sectors, where knowledge of child development is relevant. It gives learners the opportunity to gain a broad knowledge and understanding of, and develop skills in, the early years sector, for example, of child development and using play to promote child development


There are three units in the course. The first unit is ‘Patterns of Development’ and is exam based is 25% of the course. The second unit is ‘Promoting Children’s Development Through Play’ and the third unit is ‘The Principles of Early Years Practice.’ These two units are coursework based. Grades are as follows: a level one pass, a level two pass, merit, distinction and distinction*.
